Humeroulnar joint – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient seated facing the examiner with extended arm, palm up. The arm is resting comfortably on the examination table. Placing a pillow under the elbow leads to full extension of the joint.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a medial sagittal plane over the humeroulnar joint. Bony landmarks are the humeral trochlea cranial and the ulna distal.

note: check the coronoid fossa (cranial to the humeral trochlea) which is filled with the anterior fad pad and the space between the joint facets for effusion. The thin hypoechoic layer on the bony surfaces corresponds to the articular cartilage.
