Extensor tendons – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle or patient may seat on the examination table, knee flexed and the plantar surface of the foot on the table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a longitudinal plane over each extensor tendon of interest.

Note: Examine the tibialis anterior, hallucis longus and extensor digitorum longus tendons in their full length from its myotendinous junction to its different insertions (for example tibialis anterior at the first cuneiform).
