Tear medial head of gastrocnemius

Patient Positioning

Patient lies prone, foot hanging out of the examination table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a sagittal plane over the achilles tendon, which is easily palpated. Move the probe proximal to check the muscles and myotendinous junction.

patient with acute pain, hematoma and swelling, loss of range of motion and loss of strength after sustaining a soft tissue injury to the lower leg. The ultrasound reveals a tear of the medial head of gastrocnemius, no tear of the soleus or achilles tendon rupture.
