Complete tear superficial digital flexor tendons, partial tear deep flexor tendon

Patient Positioning

Patient seated in front of the examiner, hand palm up resting on a examination table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a transverse planes over the joints, muscles and tendons of interest. Do not use any pressure - especially while looking for effusion or using doppler mode. Use dynamic scanning to check the movement of the tendons during flexion / extension.

Note: partial superficial tear of the deep flexor tendon after injury with complete tear of the superficial flexor tendons

Note: missing superficial flexor tendons of the second finger, effusion

Note: the retracted tendon is visualized proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint of the 2nd digit

Note: distal to the metacarpophalangeal joint the superficial flexor tendons are missing (compared to the 3rd finger)
