Flexor tendons / bursa – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a longitudinal plane over the joints of the toe of interest.

FDL: flexor digitorum longus tendon
FDB: flexor digitorum brevis tendon

Note: in normal conditions the submetatarsal bursa is not visible - in submetatarsal bursitis complex fluid superficial to the metatarsal heads seperate from tendon can be detected.
