Pes anserinus – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine, leg externally rotated, knee 20-30 flexed.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a oblique plane in orientation of the medial collateral ligament and follow it distally, then rotate the probe forward to visualize the tendons of the pes anserinus. The doppler signal of the vessels under the tendons are a good landmark.

Note: Pes anserinus describes the insertion of the conjoined distal sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus tendons at the anteromedial aspect of the tibia
