Scaphulothoracic (infraserratus) bursitis

Patient Positioning

Patient seated on a revolving stool, arm in slight internal rotation. Elbow flexed (90°), palm up (hand can be placed on the ipsilateral thigh).

Probe Positioning

Scan the medial margin / border of scapula (Margo medialis scapulae) and perform an abduction and adduction of the shoulder.

note: patient with osteosynthesis of a rip fracture with persistent pain directly at the medial aspect of the scapulae. The ultrasound reveals scaphulothoracic (infraserratus) bursitis with tissue swelling.
