Intraarticular calcification MTP Joint

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle or patient may seat on the examination table, knee flexed and the plantar surface of the foot on the table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a longitudinal plane over the joints of the toe of interest.

Note: young (28 years old) patient with suspected NORA-lesion, the ultrasound shows an intraarticular crystal deposition (suggestive for urate), but the histologic exam confirmed calcium containing crystals (hydroxylapatite)
