Peroneal tendons – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle. The ankle is lying on its medial aspect.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a longitudinal plane over the lateral aspect of the ankle dorsal to the lateral malleolus.

Note: Try to follow each peroneal tendon from its myotendinous junction as distally as possible. The tendons arc around the malleolus. The peroneus brevis can easily be followed till its insertion at the base of the 5th metatarsal. Take a look at the retinacula.
