Bipartite patella

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine, knee 20°–30° flexed.  Place a small pillow under the joint to keep this position.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a sagittal and trasverse planes in the midline over thepatella (landmark).

Note: bipartite patella (two parts patella) is a patella with an unfused ossification center, which may persist into adult life. Bipartite patella occurs in approximately 2% of the population. It may cause anterior knee pain - especially after overuse or injury.
