Carpal boss

Patient Positioning

Patient seated in front of the examiner, hand palm down resting on the examination table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a sagittal plane over the dorsal aspect of the wrist. Move the probe radially or ulnarly over the extensor tendon compartment of interest.

Note: The carpal boss is a bony protuberance at the base of the second or third metacarpals on the dorsal surface. In this case with irritation of the nearby extensor tendons.

Note: The carpal boss is a bony protuberance at the base of the second or third metacarpals on the dorsal surface. It may represent a degenerative osteophyte formation, accessory ossicle of the wrist or bony prominence at the base of the second or third metacarpals
