Collateral ligament – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine, leg internally rotated, knee 20-30 flexed.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a sagittal plane over the peroneal head (easy to palpate) in orientation of the medial collateral ligament over the femorotibial joint.

PT: popliteal tendon
LM: lateral meniscus

Note: Examine the entire length of the ligament by sweeping the probe cranially and distally. Check the medial collateral ligament during valgus stress (integrity?) and compare it with the opposite knee.
