Fluoroquinolone-induced tendinopathy of the Achilles tendon

Patient Positioning

Patient lies prone, foot hanging out of the examination table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a sagittal plane over the achilles tendon, which is easily palpated.

note: ciprofloxacin was found to be the causal agent in this patient for a very painful tendinopathy of both achilles tendons with swelling, inhomogeneity of the texture and small anechoic and hyperechoic areas. Ciprofloxacin was stopped the the achilles tendon infiltrated by hyaluronic acid. The patient recovered after 3-4 weeks.
