Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle or legs in "frog-like" position. The ankle is lying on its lateral aspect.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on transverse planes over the tarsal tunnel and shift the probe proximally and distally.

note: patient with tarsal tunnel syndrom due to local mechanical stress. Tarsal tunnel syndrome is a compression neuropathy and painful foot condition in which the tibial nerve is compressed as it travels through the tarsal tunnel. The nerve is thickened in compared to the healthy side with positive Tinel phenomenon / positive sonocompression.
