Ankle joint – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle or patient may seat on the examination table, knee flexed and the plantar surface of the foot on the table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a longitudinal plane over the medial aspect of the ankle.

Note: Examine the anterior recess of the tibiotalar joint. Use forceful extension to evaluate the cartilage of the talar dome as best as possible.
