De Quervain tendinopathy

Patient Positioning

Patient seated in front of the examiner, hand palm down resting on the examination table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a sagittal plane over the dorsal aspect of the wrist. Move the probe radially or ulnarly over the extensor tendon compartment of interest.

Patient with pain and tenderness of the 1st extensor tendon compartmen. De Quervain tendinopathy affects the abductor pollicis longus (APL) and extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) tendons in the first extensor compartment at the styloid process of the radius. Ultrasound shows a hypoechoic swelling of the tendons, peritendinous effusion und positive dopplersignal.
