Toe joints – longitudinal

Patient Positioning

Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle or patient may seat on the examination table, knee flexed and the plantar surface of the foot on the table.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on a longitudinal plane over the joints of the toe of interest.

Note: Check the joint for effusion, synovial hypertrophy and irregularities of the bone / cartilage. Check the tendons as well - dynamic scanning against resistence can be used to evaluate their integrity.
